Helambu is a beautiful place situated in the northern part of Kathmandu, about 75 km. It is populated by the ethnic group of Sherpa people. Helambu Trekking in the lower part of the Langtang region offers the breathtaking Himalayan panoramas and the unique lifestyle of Sherpa people. Their culture is wonderful with their language, costumes and religious functions. During the trekking, you can also explore the culture of Tamang groups and their cultural heritages.
The Helambu Trekking can be done directly from Kathmandu, driving to the Sundarijal and start trekking through the Shivapuri National Park. The other route is trekking through the Gosaikunda and crossing the Lauribina Pass, it descends to the trekking route of the Helambu. From Sundarijal, it moves towards the Chisapani, Khutumsang and reach the Tharepati. It is perhaps the most challenging steep climbs on this route. The climb is thrilling and the trekkers feel really tired while crossing this pass. The surprising views of high mountains, rhododendron forests and varieties of seasonal flowers and other sceneries of local landscapes are remarkable. A rest day in Sermathang offers a chance to view the Sherpa heritages and the monuments as Monastery, Chhortens and Mani Walls. From the Melamchi Pul, you can drive to Kathmandu.
